Der Student von Prag

The Student of Prague is a 1926 German Expressionist silent film about Balduin, a penniless student who is offered a fortune by the mysterious money-lender Scapinelli, but with a strange condition. As Balduin enjoys his newfound wealth, his reflection, freed from the mirror, runs amok, causing havoc and ultimately leading to his own demise. Characterized by its impressive special effects, including seamless split-screen technology, the film is considered Henrik Galeen's magnum opus and a marked improvement over its predecessor.
