In Heian-era Kyoto, four people recount different versions of a tragic event: the murder of a samurai and the rape of his wife. Through a series of witness testimonies, reconstructions, and discussions at a gatehouse sheltering from a downpour, the true nature of the crime and its aftermath are revealed in multiple, contradictory accounts. The woodcutter provides the most seemingly objective version, while others - including a bandit, a Buddhist monk, and the samurai's wife herself - offer conflicting narratives that blur the lines between truth and fabrication.
