On a snowy Christmas Eve, John McClane finds himself at the wrong place and time - Washington Dulles International Airport, where terrorists have taken over the air traffic control system to free a South American army general and drug smuggler being flown into the US to face charges. As he waits for his wife's plane to land, McClane must navigate a complex web of inept airport officials, uncooperative anti-terrorist squads, and treacherous terrorists, all while trying to prevent a catastrophe that could kill everyone on the circling planes.
