When retired racket boss John Sarto (Edward G. Robinson) tries to reclaim his place, he finds solace in a monastery and reinvents himself as a pious monk named Brother Orchid. After being repeatedly swindled, he returns home to take back his gang, but is betrayed by his girlfriend Flo Addams (Ann Sothern), who had been using him. With the help of some loyal associates, including Willie "the Knife" Corson and mid-western rancher Clarence P. Fletcher, Brother Orchid outsmarts Flo's new husband Clarence, leading to a brawl that ultimately leads to Buck's downfall.
