Raiford Chatman "Ossie" Davis was a renowned American actor, director, writer, and activist known for his pivotal roles in Spike Lee-directed films like School Daze (1988) and Do the Right Thing (1989). He received numerous accolades including an Emmy, Grammy, and Writers Guild of America Award, as well as inductions into the American Theater Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Center Honors. Davis was married to Ruby Dee from 1948 until his death in 2005.
