In 1820s Cornwall, young Mary Yellan (Maureen O'Hara) travels to live with her aunt and uncle at Jamaica Inn, where she becomes entangled in a gang of cut-throats and thieves led by innkeeper Joss Merlyn (Leslie Banks), who are responsible for shipwrecks that allow them to steal cargo. When Mary discovers the truth behind the terror on the moors, she must fight to survive with the help of undercover agent James Trehearne (Robert Newton).
