Mâdada yo

The film "Mâdada yo" (1993) is a Japanese comedy-drama directed by Akira Kurosawa, set in postwar Tokyo. Professor Hyakken Uchida (Tatsuo Matsumura) retires and is buoyed by the devotion of his former students, who honor him each year with a raucous "Not yet!" birthday toast. As Uchida rebuilds his life, he is aided by his students and a stray alley cat he adopts, and the film follows his warm and gentle journey through aging, friendship, and the sustaining ritual of teacher and pupils refusing to say goodbye.
