The Day of the Locust

In 1930s Hollywood, aspiring artist Tod Hackett (William Atherton) tries to make a name as an art director, befriending Faye Greener (Karen Black), an aspiring actress, and Homer Simpson (Donald Sutherland), a lonely accountant. As Faye navigates the film industry, she begins to prostitute herself to pay for her father's funeral, while Homer's repressed desires lead to a tragic confrontation at a film premiere. The film's dark satire critiques the Hollywood film industry, depicting a world of alienation and desperation.
