The Enchanted Cottage

Dorothy McGuire as Laura Pennington develops a bond with Herbert Marshall's character, Oliver Bradford, a scarred ex-GI who was to spend his honeymoon at the cottage where she works. The two agree to marry out of loneliness, but are soon overcome by the romantic spirit of the cottage, which transforms them into beautiful versions of themselves in each other's eyes. Their mutual illusions are shattered when Spring Byington's character, Oliver's mother, comments on Laura's homely appearance, ultimately leading to the couple's realization of their true love for each other and validation from Mildred Natwick's character, Mrs. Minnett.
